Established in the Kanata suburbs of Ottawa, Ontario in 2024, Cattail Creek brings lively, foot-stomping music blending folk rock and campfire sing-alongs that are inspired by roots in east coast Celtic kitchen parties. Is their sound more like alt-country rock or folky fiddle tunes? Yes.

It all started with some post-pandemic blues and an itch to play more music, which inspired the age-old conversation, “You play music? I do too. We should get together and try some things out!” followed by the typical, “actually I know another guy” and “oh sweet, me too, let’s bring them in.” A chance opportunity turned into a laid-back but productive enterprise of writing music and having fun—which translates well on stage.

Cattail Creek enjoys a collaborative writing approach which lends well to a melding of the guys’ individual musical styles (not to mention spreading the load so songs actually get finished). Experimentation with various types and models of instruments in the rehearsal space allows for development of the character of each song, regardless of whether or not all those instruments make it in front of an audience…
